A great fit if…

  • You want a social pet that's easy to handle
  • You'd enjoy a pet that “talks” to you
  • You can keep at least two

Think twice if…

  • You need a silent pet (they squeal loudly at snack time)
  • You can only have one animal

Care basics

  • Keep at least two: they're herd animals
  • Daily vitamin C from fresh veg or supplements (they can't make their own)
  • Unlimited hay and fresh water
  • A roomy enclosure, cleaned regularly
  • A vet experienced with small mammals

Fun fact: In Switzerland it's illegal to keep a guinea pig on its own, because they're such social animals.
